PE2 operating instructionsThe PE2 is super easy to use, but we’re all about helping, so here’s a handy-dandy reference. Click a topic to jump down for the content for that topic. Basic use Congratulations on your new PE2 TempGun! The PE2 is a fantastic tool! Basic useThe PE2 TempGun is compact and easy to use. Just aim, press the button, and read the temperature in less than a second! Using the non-contact, infrared technology of the PE2 TempGun, you can find your coldest or hottest spots quickly and easily!
Cautions1. When the PE2 is in use, do not look directly into the laser beam. 2. Use extreme caution when operating the laser. 3. Never point the laser towards anyone’s eyes. 4. This type of laser WILL NOT do proper retina surgery. So stop trying. °F or °C modeTo change from ° F to ° C, first turn the TempGun on by pressing the Scan button, then press the mode button once. The ° F or ° C will flash, press the Scan key to change the mode. Then kiss yourself, you’re a success!
Max temp readingMaximum temperature is shown continuously on the LCD readout, above the current temperature reading. The Max reading resets each time you press the Scan button.
EmissivityIF YOU GET A CRAZY READING , THIS IS PROBABLY MISADJUSTED! The PE2 is supplied with a default emissivity of 0.95. The emissivity setting of the PE2 can be changed from 0.01 (1E) to 1 (100E). Changes should only be carried out by experienced personnel and certified rocket scientists. To change the emissivity, first turn the TempGun on by pressing the Scan button, then press the mode button twice for the emissivity function. “95E” should flash on the LCD screen, press the Scan button to adjust the emissivity value, press the mode button again to exit the set-up screen. But really, don’t screw with this (unless you have already goofed it all up, in that case set it back to .95E). For information relating to the emissivity of specific materials, refer to this FAQ.
Error messagesThe PE2 TempGun incorporates visual diagnostic messages as follows: “Hi” and “Lo” readings- “Hi” or “Low” is displayed when the temperature being measured is outside of the range of the instrument. “Hi” when higher than +662 ° F and “Lo” when lower than -67 ° F. “Er2” and “Er3” readings- “Er2” is displayed when the PE2 TempGun is exposed to rapid changes in ambient temperatures. “Er3” is displayed when the ambient temperature of the PE2 is below +32 ° F or above +122 ° F. In both cases you should allow a half an hour for the TempGun to stabilize to the working/room temperature. “Er” readings- for all other error messages it is necessary to reset the PE2 TempGun. To reset, remove the batteries and wait for a minimum of one minute, reinsert the batteries and turn the unit on. If the error message remains, scream in frustration, and then contact TempGun so we can help you rectify the situation.
BatteriesThe PE2 uses a visual battery life indicator. The battery symbol is in the upper right corner of the LCD display. A fully colored battery symbol indicates full battery life. A half-full battery symbol indicates some wear, but accurate measurements are still possible. An empty battery symbol indicates an exhausted battery. (Please note: temp readings can be inconsistent with a nearly exhausted battery.)
Battery replacementWhen the battery icon indicates the battery is low, replace immediately with 2 AAA cells. The batteries are located under the slide cover on the rear of the PE2 TempGun. Please note: It is important to turn the unit off before replacing the battery otherwise the TempGun may malfunction. In fact, it could cause a tear in the fabric of the Universe, and all of existence may be erased. You don’t want that. Dispose of the batteries properly and keep away from children, cause you know how the kiddies are with batteries (they like to eat them). Do not swallow or eat the battery. If you do, you’re a dummy. Or a small child.
CautionsProtect the PE2 from Electro Magnetic Interference from induction heaters and microwave ovens. Keep the PE2 away from static discharge. Do not leave the PE2 TempGun on or near hot objects, including swimsuit models (note: the PE2 does not measure “foxiness”).
NotesShiny or polished surfaces can give inaccurate readings. The PE2 Super Dope TempGun cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic (don’t be a dope), it will measure the surface temperature instead. Steam, dust, smoke, or other optical obstructions can prevent accurate measurements.
GuaranteeONE FULL YEAR BABY!
CareKeep the PE2 TempGun dry. If it gets wet, wipe it immediately. Use and store the PE2 only in normal environments. Handle the PE2 carefully, do not drop it, drop kick it, or chew it. Don’t place it on the railroad tracks in the hopes of turning it into a temperature measuring “flattened penny”. Keep the PE2 away from dust and dirt. The lens should be kept clean at all times, care should be taken when cleaning the lens using only a cotton swab with water or medical alcohol, allowing the lens to fully dry before using the PE2 TempGun. Stay cool.
EMC/RFIReadings may be affected if the PE2 is operated within radio frequency electromagnetic field strength of approximately 3 volts per meter, but the performance of the unit will not be permanently affected.
